“You will not bloom until you are taken out of the flower pot and placed into the rich soil, where you will grow through tribulations and the fierce wind” “… Step after step, I follow behind her. Actually, more like trailing way behind and exhausted from being in the hot, summer, sun. Oh, and the field. She made me walk in a field of weeds that got in my shoes and made my feet ache. This is perfect. Just perfect! As I try my best to keep up, we stopped by every business and spoke to every one behind those doors. One after another, we kept hearing, “No thanks”, “I’m busy”, and “Not interested”. How long do we have to keep doing this?” For a second I have realized what I have gotten myself into. I’ve gotten myself into a big load of the real world. The real world never stops being difficult, but people also never stop growing either. At UCC, I wasn’t just being trained and taught, I was also getting an opportunity to improve myself and show everyone what I learned. It wasn’t easy. But I’m always up for a challenge. I was constantly amazed at how everything worked within the company and how much my colleagues were growing beside me. It was work but we also had FUN. By FUN, I mean being amongst the best of the best co-workers and enjoying our times together. We play games, make jokes, and laugh our heads off all day, every day. “… ‘So you guys make microphones?’ and somehow she turned that first line of a conversation into an order of more than $300. How did she do that? I’ve no idea. But it worked!” From my first day at UCC to the very last, I developed myself professionally in the office and in the field. I learned skills that I didn’t have before and improved on the ones I had. I also created memorable friendships and found people that I will remember even when I finish the program. Everyone showered me with knowledge and things they learned on the way. That slowly turned into the motivation that encouraged me to keep going. “I can feel the sweat dripping down my face and my feet hurting. How do people do this every day?” The atmosphere in the office showed people who had a direction in what they want to do and where they want to go with their careers. In order to be successful, there are 2 things to focus on. First, challenge yourself to do something others won’t do. The second is to do something others can’t do. “… ‘So, what did you learn today?’ I thought to myself for a bit and it was hard to form an answer.” But now I can say that I learned more than I expected to and am grateful that I took the chance to do it. Everybody starts off as a little seed in the pot. It can bloom in a pot but only through the fierce wind will it become stronger and longer lasting, outlasting the others, making it the most radiant flower amongst them all.
