A prize in the form of a gift card? Yes, please. Just recently, one of our Fortune 500 companies gave our office a $100 gift card for our leading performance. What did we decide to do with our extra dollars? Well, let me introduce you to the concept of a team night.
Each week, our office holds a team night at various places in the Saint Louis area to create a stronger office and, put simply, to have fun. As an intern, I had no idea what to expect. During my first week, I hesitated to RSVP yes, for not so obvious reasons. I didn't doubt that everyone in the office was fun. That I could tell after a few short days of being at work. The reason I sat on the "maybe" list was that I was afraid that I would have to sing karaoke. My voice is so terrible that my own dog howls every time I try to belt a tune, so I knew that I would make a fool out of myself in front of my new coworkers. Eventually, I was persuaded to make an appearance on stage and sing. To my relief, everyone in the office cheered loudly for me, drowning out my sub-par performance. Lesson that I learned: karaoke-ing is liberating. If you have never done it before, I would highly encourage it.
Aside from having an office full of American Idols at karaoke nights, we like to mix up our evening activities. One office favorite is billiards and darts, which is usually accompanied by nachos or pizza. Apples to Apples is also a must for the nights that we don't want to leave the comforts of home. Our top performers reap their rewards when our owner treats them to Cardinals and Blues games (watch out, Hawks and Cubs fans!). Between team nights and active nights, there is never a shortage of fun to be had. We truly have adapted the work hard, play hard mentality. Our owner, Jinu Park gave his perspective on team nights: "They're are a good way to get to know people on a social level. I can take off my tie and not have them be afraid to talk to the owner of the business. It's a good way to see what everyone is passionate about and what their goals are in life so I'm able to help them achieve those goals."
As you can see, our prize money will be put to great use with our multitude of team night activities.
